They convened around a large mahogany table to discuss “the advisability of organizing a society for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge.” The entity they were about to create would become the largest nonprofit scientific and educational institution in the world. The Tsunami Volunteer Center is a project of The Mirror Foundation, a Thai Non-Government Organization (NGO) providing relief efforts for the victims of the December 26th disaster. The Tsunami Volunteer Center has rapidly grown and has supported more than 500 volunteers. There are about 10 project managers overseeing work projects in the community. The work of the center is led by both Thai and non-Thai volunteers. This is critical to ensure that all efforts directly support Thai priorities and are consistent with Thai culture and values.Sombat Boonngamanong, Director of the Mirror Foundation, provides onsite executive leadership.
